Our History

Proudly building on a 35-year legacy of delivering exceptional pharmacy services across the hospital and oncology sectors

Pharmaceutical innovation and industry improvement is in our DNA

With more than 35 years’ experience in the pharmacy industry, Epic Pharmacy is proud to deliver comprehensive pharmacy care across Australia.

Our origins

Epic Pharmacy was founded under the name APHS in 1986 with the opening of a specialist hospital pharmacy service for St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital in Brisbane. Following expansion into Queensland aged care services in 1993, APHS were awarded a 15-year contract in 1995 to provide services at Australia’s largest private hospital.

Expansion and growth

In 2020, Epic Pharmacy ownership transitioned to David Slade following an acquisition. APHS went on to secure a 20-year pharmacy contract with Haematology and Oncology Clinics of Australasia (HOCA) in 2008, before a milestone expansion into Western Australia the following year with the acquisition of several large hospital pharmacy contracts – establishing APHS as a truly national organisation.

In 2012, pharmacies that were working as third parties under the HOCA brand came together and reformed as Icon Cancer Centre (formerly known as Icon Cancer Care) to operate alongside APHS. Icon was established to provide comprehensive cancer care through a national network of day oncology clinics – integrating specialist consultation, day cancer care, pharmacy and radiation oncology.

An epic future

APHS rebranded to Epic Pharmacy in 2014 reflecting the company’s core values of Energy, Purpose, Innovate and Connect. With an additional expansion into Tasmania in 2017, Epic Pharmacy now offers pharmacy services in all states across Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.

As part of Icon Group, Epic Pharmacy provides a complete suite of pharmacy services to hospital and oncology partners alongside Slade Pharmacy, underpinned by a comprehensive network of over 60 pharmacies nationally.
